Of all academic areas, learning to read fluenly and with strong comprehension is the most critical for young learners. At Rancho Vista, one way we promote reading is through the Reading Counts (formally known as Scholastic Reading Counts) and Rancho Vista Reads programs.
Reading Counts allows students in first through fifth grades to take online quizzes based on the books they read and earn points towards different awards given at our flag deck assembly each week. More information about the program can be found in the attached parent letter.
Rancho Vista Reads is a program for TK and Kindergarten students who are still learning to read. Students and parents can log minutes spent reading with a family member (or by themselves) and earn the same awards as older children do for the Reading Counts program. Please see the link to the recording form for more specific details.
